The Mngwa is a large, cryptid felid from Tanzania, Africa. This brindle-colored feline was said to be as large as a donkey at times. Many scientists support the possibility that this cryptid is merely an unknown color of an existing species, but the tracks of this beast are different from those of leopards and lions. This is the most feared beast of all African beast.

  • The Mngwa is a gray big cat, reported to be about the size of a donkey, with darker gray stripes similar to a tiger. It has razor-sharp claws and large paws, and can kill a human in a single swipe. It may have hairless spots, as many victoms held tufts of gray hair in their hands when found dead. There had been speculation they were a mutation of the snow leopard, though natives say they are distinctly different than any native big cats.

  • In Frank W. Lane's 1954 issue of Nature Parade, Patrick Bowen, a hunter who tracked the Mngwa at one time, remarked that the animal's tracks were like those of the leopard but much larger. The Mngwa was also described to have brindled fur that was visibly different from that of a leopard. Lane believed that the attacks reported in the 19th century by the Chimiset, associated with the Nandi Bear, might actually have been attacks by the Mngwa.

Bernard Heuvelmans speculated Mngwa to be an abnormally colored specimen of a known species, or that it may even be a larger subspecies of the African golden cat.

Segundo algumas descrições, os mngwas chegariam a ser do tamanho de um asno (ou seja, 200 kg a 300 kg), o que aparentemente é incompatível com a descrição de que eles atacariam do alto de árvores.
