Charlie Corbishley was the son of Jim and Nellie Corbishley, the first landlords of the The Rover's Return. The Corbishleys opened the Rover's doors for the first time in August 1902. Before that, Jim ran a grocer's shop which he sold for £40. Charlie worked as potman and waited tables in the Select bar. He had an eye for the ladies and got a lot of attention as unlike most of the young lads in the Street, he wasn't covered in soot or sweat. His conquests included Maggie Leeming and Janey Atkinson, who tried to trap him into marriage by claiming her unborn baby was his, until Nellie sent her packing. He then cast his eye over Annie Rogers, until Annie's boyfriend Daniel Grimshaw pushed him through a window and gave him a black eye.

Charlie was the first local boy to sign up with the Lancashire Fusiliers when war came. He died in a Southampton hospital in 1916, from wounds he sustained on the Somme. Charlie first appeared in Daran Little and Bill Hill's "Weatherfield Life", published in 1992. Other information is derived from Little's follow-up book, "Around the Coronation Street Houses".
