WAIS (an acronym for Wide Area Information Servers) is a powerful retrieval tool that accepts plain English queries and searches the full text of a document looking for keywords. It allows a user to discover and access information resources on a network without regard to their physical location. WAIS libraries are most often found on the Internet.
