Gridj began to distrust the older rat's ability to lead them there. More pragmatic than Slegg, he avoided drowning when the Doomwytes led Slegg into a swamp where he drowned. However, Gridj was captured by the Doomwytes. He pleaded for mercy from Korvus Skurr, who thought Gridj knew where the Great Doomwyte Idol's eyes were. Sicariss interrogated Gridj, correctly determining that he knew nothing of the eyes. Skurr ordered the rat, still hypnotized, to be drowned in the Doomwyte's underground lake, and suggested that his carcass would be eaten.
