- Along with Scooby-Doo, Shaggy usually plays the part on the comic relief. Both characters are renowned for their cowardice. Despite usually running from the monsters, he is very useful as the gang uses Scooby and him to ferrett out the villains, as live bait. They are also both renowned for their eating abilites. Shaggy is also useful in other ways. He is a very good ventriliquist, and is able to use this skill to lure villains into the opposite direction of where they are, sometimes into a storage room where they are then caught.
- Shaggy is voiced by the late Casey Kasem. Billy West and Scott Innes (who also voiced Scooby for that time) briefly took over the role in several of the direct-to-video films produced in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He is now voiced by Matthew Lillard who played him in the live action movies.
