Tarlang was a legendary giant who was said to have carved out the White Mountains to prevent men from spreading into his people's lands. The story was told that Tarlang tripped and fell to his death, his fellow giants used his corpse to finish the work he started and Tarlang´s Neck was named after him. Tarlang may have been a heroic spirit of the Elder Days who had achieved deeds that may have become forgotten or distorted.
