- The araneas (sometimes called "werespiders") were a magical race of sentient, shape-changing spider-like creatures inhabiting the Spider Swamp in Calimshan.
- Araneas are an intelligent species of shape changers, with sorcerous abilities. They appear as large spiders in their natural form. Though they can be frightening at first if seen in their natural or hybrid forms, they are neutral, and will never harm another being without being harmed first. They are found all over the Magickverse, but most people never know that they just talked to an aranea since they tend to travel in their humanoid form. Araneas are nuetral in all matters. They hold loyalty to no one. They prefer to be left alone to their own devices. An Aranea weighs about one-hundred and fifty pounds. The hump on its back houses its brain.

- Eine Aranea ist ein magiebegabter Gestaltwandler, deren eigentliche Form einer riesigen Spinne ähnelt. Diese hat große Mandibeln und unter ihnen befinden sich zwei kleine Arme mit vielgelenkigen Fingern. Es handelt sich um sehr intelligente Wesen, die in der Lage sind Sylvan und Handelssprache zu sprechen. Der Spinnenleib ist etwa menschengroß und hat einen großen Buckel, unter welchem sich das hochentwickelte Gehirn der Aranea befindet. Meist sind sie von neutraler Gesinnung und leben einzeln oder in kleinen Gruppen von 3 bis 6 Wesen.

Ma ciało średnicy metra, a rozpiętość odnóży wynosi ponad 2 metry; waży około 75 kilogramów. W dziwacznym garbie na odwłoku znajduje się mózg. Natomiast z przodu wyrastają żuwaczki, pod którymi znajdują się dwa małe ramiona o długości około 60 centymetrów. Oba ramiona zakończone są dłonią o palcach mających wiele stawów, w tym kciukach mających aż dwa stawy. Aranee posługują się wspólnym i leśnym.
