  • Phil Roman is an American animator, director, producer, and founder of Film Roman. Having worked for Chuck Jones and Bill Meléndez (the latter of whom produced the first two TV specials on CBS), he split from Melendez to form Film Roman, which would produce all CBS specials from 1984 to 1991 as well as Garfield and Friends.

He was the founder of Film Roman, which provided the animation for Peanuts television specials, and was the director of several of those specials. Roman worked for the division of MGM which created Chuck Jones' Tom and Jerry cartoons and later for Chuck Jones productions. He was lead animator on the 1966 animated television special How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Roman was also director of the first twelve Garfield animated television specials and of the 1992 feature-length cartoon Tom and Jerry: The Movie.

He was the founder of Film Roman, which provided the animation for Peanuts television specials, and was the director of several of those specials. Roman worked for the division of MGM which created Chuck Jones' Tom and Jerry cartoons and later for Chuck Jones productions. He was lead animator on the 1966 animated television special How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Phil Roman was the director of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, It's a Mystery, Charlie Brown, It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown, It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown, It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown, What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown, You're the Greatest, Charlie Brown, She's a Good Skate, Charlie Brown, Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown, It's Magic, Charlie Brown, Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown and Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?. He directed some sequences of It's an Adventure, Charlie Brown and The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. He was co-director of the feature-length movies Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown and Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!!). Roman was also director of the first twelve Garfield animated television specials and of the 1992 feature-length cartoon Tom and Jerry: The Movie. Roman's company Film Roman produced The Simpsons and King of the Hill as well as the Peanuts and Garfield television specials. Roman left Film Roman in 1999 and founded Phil Roman Entertainment.
