Bruce is also trained as a classical cellist. However, despite the other genres of music with which which he is associated, Bruce has always considered himself to be a jazz musician, although much of his catalogue of compositions and recordings tend to evoke the blues and rock and roll. The Sunday Times stated "... many consider him to be one of the greatest bass players of all time."
