Burkesland became one of the only major non-industrial population centers of the Main Belt, thanks in more than small part to the Fleet base stationed on the planet, a fair distance from Earth in case of trouble. During the crisis, a large portion of the Fleet personnel on the planet were convinced to protect the Main Belt through massive amounts of Credits. Ever since, Burkesland has been the military command and main military base of the FTO.
