At around midnight, Dale went to check on the boys and six year old John soon cried in pain. Dale could not explain what happened, and although Delores wanted to take him to the hospital, Dale told her not to. She decided to take him to a naval hospital because John's biological father was in the army. The doctor believed that he had been severely choked. John claimed that his friend bit him, but it was not possible because his friend was not there, and he later said that Dale Hyde was the one who attacked him. Delores took her children away from Hyde and he was questioned by authorities. Hyde, however, said he was innocent, and no charges were filed against him. The next day, Delores and her brother-in-law went back to the apartment to pick up clothes for her and her children. She went in the bedroom to confront Hyde, and she found him lying on the floor on the phone. She asked him if he did it and he said he did abuse John, and she told him to leave. That afternoon, Hyde left the apartment and vanished. The authorities discovered that in 1979, Hyde was arrested for the death of his biological son, pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and served three years in prison. Several months after Hyde vanished, he was arrested after he had assaulted another woman's son in New Mexico, leaving the boy mentally and physically impaired. He was extradited back to Corpus Christi and was subject to several psychiatric tests and it was determined he had several serious issues. Three days before the trial, Hyde posted bail and vanished. Extra Notes: This case first aired on the February 21, 1990 episode. Results: Captured. Hyde was picked up under the name Allan Stacy in Reno, Nevada, and was arrested due to viewer's tips. He was convicted of child abuse and sentenced to twelve years in prison. Links: * 2003 My Plain View Article about Dale Hyde
