He played Tier II Junior "A" for the St. Albert Saints from 1977 to 1980. In 1980 he was picked up by the Red Deer Rustlers for the 1980 Centennial Cup tournament. The Rustlers won the Cup and Ford was named the best goalie. The Pittsburgh Penguins traded Tom Thornbury to the Nords for Ford in 1984. He played eight games for the Pens in 1984-85, his last in the NHL. He continued to play until his retirement in 1991.

abstract	He played Tier II Junior "A" for the St. Albert Saints from 1977 to 1980. In 1980 he was picked up by the Red Deer Rustlers for the 1980 Centennial Cup tournament. The Rustlers won the Cup and Ford was named the best goalie. Ford then played a couple of seasons for the Billings Bighorns. Undrafted by the NHL, he signed as a free agent with the Quebec Nordiques in 1982. He turned pro with the Fredericton Express in 1982-83 and won the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award. The next year he repeated as the Holmes winner and also won the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award. He also got into three games with the Nordiques - his first in the NHL. The Pittsburgh Penguins traded Tom Thornbury to the Nords for Ford in 1984. He played eight games for the Pens in 1984-85, his last in the NHL. He continued to play until his retirement in 1991.
