He played Tier II Junior "A" for the St. Albert Saints from 1977 to 1980. In 1980 he was picked up by the Red Deer Rustlers for the 1980 Centennial Cup tournament. The Rustlers won the Cup and Ford was named the best goalie. The Pittsburgh Penguins traded Tom Thornbury to the Nords for Ford in 1984. He played eight games for the Pens in 1984-85, his last in the NHL. He continued to play until his retirement in 1991.
