  • John Paul Jones was a famous Scottish sailor during the Revolutionary War. He is most famous for his statement he made to a British captain that he was being ordered to surrender by. He told the captain: "I have not yet begun to fight!" Mr. Mxyzptlk quotes his line, referring to him as an American (which he wasn't, he was Scottish) and quoting it as "I have not yet begun to joke!" It's possible he called him American because he served in the U.S. Navy.

  • John Paul Jones (July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was a Scottish-born Navy boy and the best damn general/pirate the American navy has ever seen. The English tried to kill him several times but failed because they were tea-drinking pussies.

Although he made enemies among America's political elites, his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him an international reputation which persists to this day. As such he is sometimes referred to as the "Father of the United States Navy" (an epithet he shares with John Barry). He later served in the Imperial Russian Navy.

  • APRIL 10, 2008 State House District 27 Vanilla Pastry Studio on Main Street in the West End serves a chocolate-and-peanut-butter cupcake that is moist and divine, studded with jimmies and capped with a peanut-butter cup section. But neighbors better hurry to buy one. "We're moving to Shadyside," says employee Christen Beddinger. "We anticipate three times the business. People don't just come to the West End to walk around." The county Democratic Party made clear its choice for the seat: Deasy garnered 74 votes, far outstripping Douglass' 22 votes, and the 8 ballots cast for Jones.
  • John Paul Jones (July 6, 1747 – July 18, 1792) was a famed male Human naval fighter in the 18th century, during the American Revolution. In 2286, as he considered the end of his career, Captain James T. Kirk wondered if it would end clouded by political intrigue as Jones's had, or heroically like Horatio Nelson's. (TOS novel: Timetrap) Leonard McCoy quoted Jones, saying "Give me a fast ship, and I'll put her in harm's way," as a way of encouraging his friend Admiral Jo Stern after a frustrating conversation with Brett Ryan of the United Earth Police.
