- Despite this, Roo slips out on his own in search of the heffalump. He finds one; a playful young creature named Heffridge Trumpler Brompet Heffalump IV ("Lumpy" for short). Roo is afraid of his captive at first, but the two quickly become friends and play. Lumpy uses his trunk to call to her, but it doesn't work. After hours of searching, Lumpy assumes that they will never find her and starts to cry. Roo consoles Lumpy with a song he learned from Kanga. Then, Roo gets an idea: they could go find his mother, and see if she can help Lumpy.
- Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends hear a strange noise and find a set of large, perfectly circular foorprints in the Hundred Acre Wood. They jump to the conclusion that the noise and prints are from a heffalump, and Rabbit organizes an expedition to go try to catch it; but Roo is told to stay behind, as everyone believes the expedition is too dangerous for one as young as he.
- Winnie the Pooh and the others are woken one morning by strange noises and Pooh fell down and got stuck in his honey pot. Rabbit recognizes the noise that they heard as a heffalump and decides to organize an expedition to Heffalump Hollow. Roo thinks that heffalumps sound "neat," but Rabbit tell him that they are most certainly not neat. He and the others outline the dangers of heffalumps in song-- that they have "fiery eyes and a tail for a spike." Despite these supposed dangers, Roo still thinks that the idea of the expedition is "ever-neat" but is told that he is too young to go on the expedition by his mother, Kanga. Roo, not wanting to be left out on the fun, travels to Heffalump Hollow in secret, while the others have their expedition. There, he stumbles into a young heffalump who go
