Roy Sommer (born April 5, 1957 in Oakland, California) was a professional ice hockey player who played for the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. He also served as an assistant coach of the San Jose Sharks. Currently, he is the head coach of the Worcester Sharks, the American Hockey League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Sommer was a junior star with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Calgary Centennials. The Toronto Maple Leafs chose him 101st overall in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft but he never played for the team.

Sommer was a junior star with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Calgary Centennials. The Toronto Maple Leafs chose him 101st overall in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft but he never played for the team. He spent most of his career in the minors, except for a three game trial with the Edmonton Oilers in 1980-81, when he score one goal. Sommer retired as a player in 1987. Sommer then embarked on a long career as a coach. He was the head coach of the Roanoke Valley Rebels in 1991-92, the Richmond Renegades from 1991–1996, the Kentucky Thoroughblades from 1998–2001, the Cleveland Barons from 2001 to 2006, and the Worcester Sharks since 2006. He also served as an assistant coach of the Muskegon Lumberjacks in 1987-88, the Prince Albert Raiders in 1988-89, and the San Jose Sharks from 1996-1998.
