He had axed Molly Dobbs, who was killed in the tram crash and the long-running Peacock family, where Ashley Peacock was killed off after being crushed by the collapsing viaduct. In 2011, he re-introduced original Coronation Street character Dennis Tanner played by Philip Lowrie, who had last appeared in 1968 - a gap of forty-three years. Other former characters Collinson resurrected included Jim McDonald, Marcus Dent, Jamie Baldwin, Violet Wilson, Todd Grimshaw, Amber Kalirai, Gordon Clegg, Terry Duckworth and Wendy Crozier. He also re-cast the established roles of Tommy Duckworth and Ryan Connor, and masterminded the ghostly one-off return of Vera Duckworth to coincide with husband Jack's on-screen demise. Collinson was responsible for creating many new characters, most notably the Price family - Stella, Eva and Gloria - Kylie Turner, Sylvia Goodwin, Kirsty Soames, Beth and Craig Tinker, and Rob Donovan. Characters who departed the show during his tenure included Janice Battersby, Eddie Windass, Graeme Proctor, Betty Williams, John Stape, Bill and Rosie Webster and Becky McDonald In October 2012, it was announced that Collinson would be leaving the post in January 2013, to be replaced by Emmerdale producer Stuart Blackburn. His last episodes were broadcast in April 2013, which circled around a fire at the Rovers Return Inn and character Karl Munro killing Sunita Alahan.
