Thaurissan is a name used in the mythology of the Warcraft universe for the sorcerer thane of the Dark Iron Dwarves, as well as the former Dark Iron capital named after him. Sorcerer and Emperor of the Dark Iron Clan during the War of the Three Hammers, he retreated to the Dark Iron capital city of his name after their defeat and summoned the Firelord Ragnaros. The arrival of Ragnaros caused cataclysmic changes to the Redridge Mountains and formed Blackrock Spire, killing Emperor Thaurissan and destroying the Dark Iron city. Thaurissan is also the name of an Oceanic Realm.

Doch Eisenschmiede und Grim Batol wehrten den Angriff ab und gingen in den Gegenangriff über.Bedrängt von den Truppen seiner Feinde beschwor Thaurissan mit seinen mächtigsten Magiern,den Sieben,ein uraltes Übel: den Feuerfürsten Ragnaros.Dieser verwandelte das nördliche Rotkammgebirge in ein Moloch aus Lava und Asche,und an seinem Ankunftspunkt entstand der Schwarzfels. Ragnaros machte die Dunkeleisenzwerge zu seinen Sklaven.Er zwang die Zwerge dazu Hallen in den Schwarzfels zu schlagen während Er sich in den geschmolzenen Kern zurückzog.Die Ruinen der Stadt liegen nun verlassen in der brennenden Steppe,selten durchstreifen Schwarzfelsorcs oder Dunkeleisenzwerge die zerfallenen Straßen.
