* William McKinley was shot in the ribs and abdomen by Leon Czolgosz at a reception in Buffalo on September 6, 1901. He was to recovering and seemed likely to survive, but died suddenly on September 14.
* John Kennedy was shot in the upper back, throat, and back of the head on November 22, 1963 by a person believed to be Lee Harvey Oswald. He was pronounced dead half an hour after the shooting.
