Argas persicus, the fowl tick or poultry tick is a Argasid belonging to the Argasidae family. It is mainly found on chicken and other domestic fowl. Lorenz Oken discovered it in 1818 in Persia. Lorenz named the species Rhynochoprion persicum, but the genus Argas had a priority.
