| - Barradu is a Tosk who was captured by slavers while attempting to outrun his Hunter. At some point after being captured, he was sold to the wealthy eccentric Ionescan Antathon Dilevu, who gave him his current name and set him loose on his private space station (now called Starbase 424), thinking that he might make for an entertaining afternoon. However, Dilevu's advanced age meant that he was unable to hunt the Tosk himself, and thus that job was delegated to his already-overworked servant Jevis Martok, who had better things to do than hunt down a creature that was genetically engineered to evade capture.

As a result, Barradu found himself thousands of light-years from home, with no one around who possessed any interest in hunting him, and thus nobody to outrun. However, when the space station was sold to the Federation, Barradu suddenly found out that the Federation didn't want him on their new starbase, as their laws forbid slavery and hunting, and thus intended to find him and banish him. He has thus dedicated himself to evading their efforts, adding to the frustrations of the Federation staff as they struggle to bring the station up to Federation standards.
