  • Transmat was a type of matter/energy conversion techology used by the Ardanan culture on planet Ardana. It was similar to, but distinct from, transporter technology of the type used by the United Federation of Planets and its neighboring cultures. It was used primarily for transport between the Cloud City of Stratos and the planet surface. In 2377, the crew of the USS Edison, while trying to repair Stratos's failing anti-gravity engines, were also able to reactivate the transmat system. (CoE eBook: Signs from Heaven)

During the Great Disruption on Ardana in the late 23rd century, Troglyte rebels were able to seize control of the Stratos City Dwellers' transmat system and invade the city. Following the overthrow of the government and abandonment Stratos, the system lay unused for decades, and eventually ceased functioning. In 2377, the crew of the USS Edison, while trying to repair Stratos's failing anti-gravity engines, were also able to reactivate the transmat system. (CoE eBook: Signs from Heaven) The transmat system was severely damaged during the Borg Invasion of 2381. Chief Rupi Yee of the USS Sugihara was assigned to supervise the repair of the system, which proved a challenge given its incompatibilities with Federation technology. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny) Though the Ardanan's unique technology was seen in TOS episode: "The Cloud Minders", the term "transmat" is used only in Signs from Heaven. This may have been intended as a "tip of the hat" to Doctor Who, as the term was often used in that universe for devices that transmitted matter.
  • The Transmat is an Utrom invention similar to Professor Honeycutt's Teleportal. It appears in the Mirage Comics, 2003 TV series, and the games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash-Up. It teleported the turtles to an alien planet. In the story Terror by Transmat!, A larger Triceraton invasion force have apparently stumbled upon a transport station on Gavat-4 and the three Triceratons within the transport station on the Utrom homeworld intend on activating the transmat devices and inviting their invasion force in. The Turtles, Honeycutt and the hostages make it to the transmat platform and beam out just as their charges detonate the facility, leaving behind thousands of enraged Triceratons. Leatherhead tried to build one in the issue Leatherhead, Too and the episode What a Croc, so he can travel to the Utrom homeworld. In the Image Comics series, together with Dr. X, Leatherhead managed to assemble a new Transmat Device, unfortunately, when testing it, the signal projected from the device ended-up luring a group of Triceratons to Leatherhead's lair. Unfortunately, while battling the last remaining Triceraton, the Triceraton activated a "portable, short-range matter transponder", and transported Leatherhead and the unnamed Triceraton to parts unknown. In the 2003 TV series episode Same As It Never Was future Ch'rell forces the Utroms to build one for him. With it, he planned to send forth his armies and enslave the stars, one world after another. But he was killed by Donatello before he got a chance to put his plain into action. It's revealed in the 2003 episode Secret Origins that the waste products from the Transmat are the Ooze that caused the Turtles' mutation. In the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash-Up, The Shredder captured Fugitoid in order to force him to make a Transmat to teleport his armies all around the world. At the end of the game Honeycutt flips the switch on the Transmat, which Shredder and Karai have landed on, and teleports them to parts unknown.
