It is populated by Syriac-speaking Christian Assyrian people in the Nineveh plains of Northern Iraq. The issue of Assyrian independence has been brought up many times since the end of World War I. It was not until the events of Doomsday, and the geo-political changes that event brought, that an independent Assyrian state came to be.
