His first known Rookie was Bowser, who had gained amnesia after one of the Starshade Bros. fired him from a cannon. However, after Bowser regained his memory, Birdo became the new Rookie. After Popple was defeated again, Birdo grows angry with him. Mario and Luigi fight him for the last time, but this time he is alone. When you fight him the first time, defeating Bowser causes him to attack a few more times, then run away.
- Popple is the tertiary antagonist of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. He also appeared in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
- Sir Popplafane, Last of the Toclafane, commonly known as Popple or The Shadow Thief, is a bean from the future that traveled to the present using Doctor Who's technology. He appeared in Mario & Luigi:Super Star Shmaga as a minor character after travelling back in time by kidnapping Shadow the Hedgehog in the future (yes, it's confusing, but bear with me). Later, after the events of Mario & Luigi: Fart On Time, he and the rest of the Toclafane drove the Shroobs to extinction. After that, Popple found a job working for George W. Bush in George W. Bush's Idiot Adventures.
- Back when he was little, he first met Buffy Foxx as Princess among Chows and K-9's and since he got older, since the Superstar Saga, he's been doing everything he can (first with Bowser and Birdo who were his former Rookies) to trying to get some fortune for the heart to share with Buffy Foxx. And the only way to do it in his case is to become the first shadow thief after his parents were killed by Swoopers summoned by Antasma.
- You can meet Popple ingame in HKO in Beijing, close to Bird's Nest in the northern part of the city. He is searching for Pii-Chans. Popple, a waddling duck, is the swimming instructor of Pochacco, the dog.
