Siehe hierzu: --> Holodeck Kategorie:Technologie

  • The Holodeck is an instrument and a device used by scriptwriters too lazy to come up with fresh story ideas. Initially intended to replace the tiresome "Hodgkin's Law" plot, as well as the increasingly threadbare "time travel" trope, the use of the holodeck reached its nadir with ENT: "These Are the Voyages...", the episode that officially marked the end of Star Trek as a viable commercial franchise.
  • Under normal circumstances, matter created on the holodeck cannot exist outside that environment. Despite this limitation, several holograms have been known to become sentient. Holodecks often have a tendency to malfunction, sometimes creating unique, or even dangerous, situation. (TNG: "11001001", "Elementary, Dear Data", "Ship In a Bottle", "The Big Goodbye", "Emergence"; DS9: "His Way"; VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!", "Worst Case Scenario") A smaller variant designed for single-occupant use is the holosuite, supposedly invented by Plegg, a Ferengi entrepreneur.
  • Prior to the 2370s, holodecks installed aboard Federation starships produced objects that users could manipulate using simple holograms and force fields. In the 2370s, engineers had enhanced the holodeck to replicate an item when a user wanted to manipulate it, so that it would feel as real as possible. However, when the objects weren't being manipulated, the replicated item would be removed and it would be produced with holograms and force fields again. A replicated object would also revert to a hologram if it was to be used as a weapon, such as a sword. (TNG eBook: A Sea of Troubles)
  • In 2151, the Starfleet vessel Enterprise NX-01 encountered a vessel belonging to an alien race known as Xyrillians, who had advanced holographic technology in the form of a holographic chamber, or holo-chamber for short, which was similar to the holodeck technology commonly used by the Federation Starfleet two centuries later. (ENT: "Unexpected") A holo-chamber was later installed aboard a Klingon battle cruiser after an encounter with a Xyrillian vessel discovered hitchhiking behind their ship. (ENT: "Unexpected")
