abstract
  • The Orange Tree Presidential Primary was the electoral contest organised in order to choose the presidential candidate for the newly formed coalition in the upcoming 4193 Presidential Election. The primary will use a delegate system with all candidates who have received 10,000 signatures, and have been a registered member of the alliance for at least nine months being able to run. Each state would be assigned a certain number of delegates, the capitals of each state would hold separate primaries, if no candidate received 50% of the delegates a run off by popular vote would be held between the two candidates with the most delegates. The first primary would be held in Kordusia on October 13th, with Haldor holding a primary on October 27th, and primaries taking place at two week intervals after that, on to Westmark; then Dorvan, Miktar and Largonia. The first person to declare their interest was Thomas Wellstein, a member of the Union of Democratic Socialist and the previous presidential candidate for the party. the Centre Party and Freedom Party both chose to endorse Wellstein given his experience in running major presidential campaigns. Despite this two others filled their candidacies; Gabi Westerwelle, Independent member of the National Assembly; and Rainer Lucke, a centre-right leaning member of the Centre Party.
