The headstock has a 2mm thick flamed maple top which is finished to match the body and bound. The serial number is hand-written on the back of the headstock using pure sterling silver ink. The 22 frets are a callback to the original S series models; contemporary models all have 24 frets. The JCS12QM is a similar model with a quilted maple top. The JCS12FM was offered only in 2012.
