abstract
  • Gauss (ガウス Gausu?) is a veteran cyberphysician who Daisuke Ido trained under after he arrived in the Scrapyard. He only appears in the side story The Holy Night.
  • Early in their expeditions, the Muun civilisation would stumble upon a strange and barren planet in the highly clustered group of stars that would later be known as the Deep Core. Attempts to scan the planet were foiled by the strong magnetic fields. The Muuns landed upon the surface to explore the planets potential as a mining world for the Intergalactic Banking Clan. The Muuns discovered Gauss indeed had an abundance of easily accessible ore and quickly set up mining operations on the planet. As a result of the primitive scanning equipment used at the time and the magnetic activity any attempts to find the water that existed below the surface of the planet failed and Gauss was deemed inhospitable. To benefit from the resources on Gauss the Muun set up an automated factory on the world to produce mining droids to run the mines and a satelite to channel communications between the Banking Clan and the factory. The Magnetism stopped any orders and the satelite, without recieving signals from the Muun or the factory, gradually shut down, its orbit decayed and it crashed into the spires of the planet, the factory hadn't even began production.

However, the TEC Rebels have outfitted their Ragnarov Titan with twelve dual turrets of Gauss guns (eight of them forward-facing and four aft-facing), creating the first ship with Gauss weaponry as standard (as opposed to Kol's Gauss Rail Gun active ability). It is unusual among damage types in that while there are no direct damage-amplifying research for this damage type, there is both rate-of-fire increasing research topic, Quick Gauss Capacitors, (the likes of which only the Plasma damage type has, and very late in the game) and a range-increasing research topic, Highly Conductive Rails. While all but the rarest damage types (Rail Gun, Psionic Surge, Phase Cannon, Flak and Point Defense, all specific to Titans and Starbases) have damage-increasing research, the rate of fire upgrade can be considered a compensation.
