Formed from the remnants of the Imperial Army, the Imperial Guards are an independent, influential and powerful faction, maintaining order and preventing open war between Noble Houses. While the Noble Houses squabble amongst themselves, cloaked in subterfuge, espionage and counter-espionage, the Guards are more idealistic. Their primary goal is the restoration of the Empire to its former glory, regardless of how unrealistic this seems at the present. This article is a . You can help My English Wiki by expanding it.

- Imperial Guards (皇国の守護者, Koukoku no Shugosha)
- Imperial Guards were the hired forces that protected Princess Kupacious and kept the peace in Shanazar. Like all other citizens of Shanazar, the guards are of no obvious species of animal but, either way, their identities were largely shrouded by their ropes and face protectors. Their colour of choice is the regal purple and every item of their uniform was coloured this way. To fight off enemies, the imperial guards carried long staffs or a small, wiggly blade.
- Imperial Guards are a faction of the Pirates theme. With their introduction in 1992, they gradually replaced the Imperial Soldiers as main adversaries of the pirates. The older Imperial Soldiers' sets that continued in production were then considered part of the Imperial Guards faction in the catalogue until their discontinuation at the end of 1993. It can be suggested that the Guards and Soldiers were not actually different factions, rather the Guards was just an update to the anti-pirates side.

It can be suggested that the Guards and Soldiers were not actually different factions, rather the Guards was just an update to the anti-pirates side. The faction was succeeded by the Imperial Armada in 1996, but finally made a comeback when the Pirates line was relaunched in 2009.

The guards first appeared on the scene at the same time that Sonic the Hedgehog beamed onto the microscopic planet by use of the transportation belt. The guards had been warned by the Grand Vizier that more creatures from Mobius may arrive (with Grimer and Nack the Weasel beating Sonic to it), so quickly arrived to battle Sonic and to capture him. However, the three were easily defeated by Sonic's Spin Attack, so the capture was left to wizard Fajar and his parasitic genie. Later, with Sonic in the palace dungeons with Grimer and Nack, a guard summoned the new arrivals and took them to the Grand Vizier, only for him to take Grimer and Nack back when they discovered their host to be Doctor Kintobor. After a quick recap given to Sonic by Kintobor, a guard summons Kintobor to see the princess. Unfortunately, the sight of Sonic makes them wonder why he's not in the dungeon and they attack before Kintobor can put them right. Sonic doesn't directly attack them this time, instead wrapping one in some drapes before unfurling the foe into his companion. The fight is ended by a yell from Kupacious. Kintobor and Sonic are tasked with taking chosen children to the Mystic Mountain, so a pair of imperial guards accompany them on the trek there. However, the guides become terrified once they reach the gate and hastily retreat. Much later, two guards block the entrance to the palace, but are easily brushed aside by Sonic. Some more accompany Kupacious once she learns of Doctor Robotnik's treachery. The princess is about to order the guards to behead Robotnik, but the command is cut short by a magic gem and the guards decide to disobey the order. The guards haven't been seen since Shanazar was merged with Mobius. If they survived the collision, the guards presumably went on their own paths with no princess to serve, or merely continued employment with the new ruler of Shanazar.
