  • Rantok was a male Cardassian and a legate in the Cardassian Guard during the early years of the Occupation of Bajor. He is considered to be a legend by the Cardassian people and was honored with a large statue of him on the Veteran's Bridge in Cardassia City. In order to bring a region under control during the start of the Occupation, Rantok laid siege to a city for around six months. The Bajorans held valiantly for around four months, until Rantok's troops captured a nearby dam and cut off the water supply. The residents held out for eight more weeks before they surrended, bringing the region under total Cardassian control. In 2374, during the Dominion War, Rantok was stationed on Ogyas III. After Cardassia switched sides, the Jem'Hadar were ordered to kill all Cardassians. Rantok was a casualty of the purge. (DS9 novel: The Never-Ending Sacrifice) Corat Damar viewed the statue of Rantok in 2375. The metal of the plaque had tarnished and the stone around it had weakened. (DS9 short story: "Face Value")
