The Tyche has a variety of missions, such as disaster relief, anti-piracy, anti-terrorism, vessel interception and inspection and distress response. The ship is designed to have extremely high endurance, being capable of travelling far from known ports to respond to distress signals, preforming in-atmosphere relief missions and going toe to toe with pirate or Insurrectionist combat vessels. To this end, it is extremely fast and possesses surprisingly heavy fire-power, including numerous point defences, anti-ship cannons and LASERs, Archer missiles and a single M5 Storm Naval Gun System, capable of causing heavy damage to enemy vessels, and catastrophic damage to smaller vessels, allowing it fight ships well above its tonnage. The Tyche carries two platoon sized contingents of Marines for boarding, search and seizure missions and six Pelicans for ferrying them. For chasing down faster ships, the Tyche can also be equipped with a squadron of Broadsword fighters, which can quickly chase down and disable or destroy larger vessels. The Tyche is rarely deployed as a singular combat ship, but is more often tied to the defence of a sector, for maritime patrol and investigation missions.
