  • Brother Theo Ankises was a character from the television series Babylon 5. Brother Theo was a member of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, more commonly known as the Trappists. Shortly after Ambassador Kosh revealed himself in order to save the life of John Sheridan in early 2261 Brother Theo and his Monks travelled to Babylon 5 from their monastery at New Melleray. With the permission of Earth Alliance and Church officials they applied for and received permanent residence status on the station, taking up residence in Brown Sector. Theo hand picked his companions, bringing along technical experts who could provided services to the station crew and various commercial interests in order to pay for their room and board. Theo and his monks soon proved invaluable in catching a mad bomber thanks to their detailed analysis of security camera footage from each of the blast sites. Working through the footage they find the one person in common at each and every blast site. Captain Sheridan soon confronted the bomber and what he learned kept the station from being destroyed by a bomb strapped to the main reactor. The Trappist community soon became a part of the Babylon 5 community. Theo became good friends with a number of the command staff. Much to Sheridan's chagrin Brother Theo was a much better chess player than he was, regularly beating him at their games. When Brother Edward was found to be the mind-wiped Black Rose Killer, Theo tried to get him to come back to the order in order to help the man work through his problems. Edward refused and was soon beaten and hung by one of his victims relatives. Theo found him and released him from his restraints. Theo then prayed with Edward, granting him absolution and pardon from all his sins before Edward died. The man who murdered Edward was subsequently mind-wiped as punishment for his crimes. Theo arranged to take the man into the order as Brother Malcolm. When Sheridan recoiled at meeting Malcolm Theo gently reminded him that forgiveness was something they all had to strive for. At that Sheridan shook the young man's hand and wished him luck. Theo walked Malcolm back to his shuttle, which soon departed for Earth so the young man could continue his training. After Babylon 5 broke from the alliance, Brother Theo and his monks remained on board to continue providing spiritual care for the station. Working with clergy from other religious traditions Theo was able to set up a back channel information pipeline to the station so that the crew could learn about what was really happening at home with ISN now being a propaganda arm for President Morgan Clark.
