At the time, the land was ruled by a hyena called King Leer, who delighted in conquering the smaller tribes and inventing oppressive laws. - Bravehog is a hedgehog who existed 600 years before the main events of Sonic the Comic. A distant ancestor of Sonic the Hedgehog, he was the leader of the hedgehog tribe and was determined to stand up to the evil hyena population. His hedgehog people weren't so keen to rise up and he was the only one who would stand up to the hyenas when they took on the fox tribe. The foxes, however, left him to be captured and Bravehog's spikes were to be shaved off as a sign of King Leer's power. However, Bravehog made the others realise that what he was doing was the right thing and they helped him out, ending Leer's rule of Mobius.

He was plucked from the past by the Pirate Omni-Viewer as part of a Metallix scheme in "Many Happy Returns". Readers have criticised the idea of Bravehog, pointing out he (and the other hedgehogs) looks just like modern Sonic, even though Sonic looked completely different before his exposure to the Retro-Orbital Chaos Compresser. Bravehog is an obvious parody of Braveheart. Having lived so long ago, he's likely dead.

King Leer intended to shave off Bravehog's spines as a demonstration of his power, but Bravehog's brave words inspired the badger and fox onlookers to fight the hyenas and save Bravehog. The tribes were united under Bravehog and fought back against King Leer, inspired by Bravehog's battle-cry: "Clear off!" From that day forward, the people of Mobius lived together.
