He was born into the Maivia Wrestling Family on his mother's side, which has close ties to the Anoa'i family (its members known for playing up the Wild Samoan stereotype). His father, also a wrestler, is black. Johnson's ambiguous racial features give him a universal sex appeal similar to other mixed actors like Halle Berry and Vin Diesel. Plus, he doesn't seem to take himself seriously, committing without self-consciousness to roles most people would turn down. Either way, his good looks, friendly personality, and decent acting often make him the best thing in a bad movie, although not always enough to save it.
