The civil war on planet Mordan IV was a costly conflict between two Mordanite political factions that was started in 2319, and lasted forty years. The war precipitated when Karnas's father was killed by Peretor Sain. In response, he took sixty-three passengers of a starliner hostage and asked Starfleet to give him weapons to fight his enemies and ultimately take control of the planet. In 2359, the civil war had ended on Mordan, with Karnas emerging as governor. (TNG: "Too Short a Season" )
