The slaughterbots are the agents of the Guild of Calamitous Intent's (and previously the Sovereign)'s will. In addition to defense, they are also apparently using in testing for duoship, as the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch had to survive a troop of them to get approved of their duoship.
