Lawrence had a Starfleet character in the episode "In the Pale Moonlight" named after him. The name of an Ensign called "Paul F. Lawrence" can be seen on a Casualty report in that episode. Before working on Star Trek. Lawrence was an assistant director on the television series Parenthood, Veronica Clare and Going to Extremes. He also worked on several television movies, such as A Girl of the Limberlost (starring Joanna Cassidy), The Fear Inside and Prophet of Evil: The Ervil LeBaron Story.
