Janwuine-jika was a ceremony of the Gand species. It conferred upon the species' most famous and successful members a sort of folk-hero status, which included the right to refer to themselves in the first-person and to have their mate selected by the race as a whole. The ceremony could also be used to simultaneously grant someone the position of findsman. General Airen Cracken had an opportunity to observe one of these ceremonies and admitted to finding it unsettling.
