The best answer is that there are 195 countries in the world. There are 192 countries that are members of the United Nations. In addition, there are the Vatican city, Kosovo and Taiwan that are not members of the UN, but are independent countries. So the sum is 195. However, you should know that there are a lot of regions that are called "countries", but don't count at all. They are governed by other countries. An example of this is Greenland (governed by Denmark), and the parts of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales...) They are not fully independent countries.
