An iconic display console was an interface with manual input keys with pictographs on them which indicated their respective function similar to that of a 21st century keyboard. Lieutenant Barclay instructed the USS Enterprise-D's computer to create an iconic display console for his left hand in the holodeck in an attempt to create a faster interface between the Enterprise and the Argus Array whose reactor was about to go critical.
