The English Eugenics Society was founded to apply the idea of evolution to the human race. The term "eugenics" was coined by the English scientist Francis Galton in 1883, and he advocated that future generations of humans could be improved through encouraging the "best" in society to have more children. Charles Darwin's son, Leonard, heartily promoted Galton's proposals in the 1920s and became director of the English Eugenics Society. The English Eugenics Society was a precursor to the modern promotion of abortion, and founded the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
