Twelve years after Emergence Day, DeVere was in a unit commanded by Lt. Donneld Mathieson. They were ambushed by Locust forces while on patrol, and DeVere was killed by a mine alongside Witmann, while Mathieson was severely wounded and had to have both his legs amputated.
