Born in Dallas, Texas, Palmer graduated in 1985 from the Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television. He started as boom operator for sound mixers such as Peter J. Devlin, Robert Allan Wald, and Tom Nelson, until he has started his own sound mixing career in 1999. Palmer resides in Woodland Hills, California.
