A Tether Recovery is when you are able to recover from far. Link's, Samus's and Sheik's Grab can be used as tether recoveries. Ivysaur's and Zero Suit Samus's Up Specials are tether recoveries. Not every character has a tether recovery. Very few do have tether recoveries. Tether Recoveries are the only moves that allow you to recover from far. When a character does a tether recovery he/she will pull out a long, rope-like item and the "rope" will stick to the edge where you can get back on stage.
