Gray is the best friend of Ash and a frequent trailer in Ash's journeys. He originally was seen by Ash walking from the road to the Battle Entrance in Viridian City and has since been on countless adventures with Ash, usually he see's right through Team Rocket's disguises and more often than not tries to kill them outright, but somehow they stay alive, even after a Hyper Beam and a Dragon Rage. Ash finally found out that the champion was Gray, but he never got a chance to witness Gray's full power as champion, even though Gray wiped out Gary's team when he leaves for a few days. Gray seems to practice stealth, speed, and attack training with Charmeleon, and he appears to have a strong bond with Charmeleon. They both have golden hearts and they try their best to help Ash and the others.
