A Frag Assault Launcher is a panel or grouping of panels fitted with explosive fragmentation charges that are mounted on some Imperial vehicles and used to unleash a barrage of shrapnel against light targets at close-range. These weapons are often used to clear the way for troops before an assault, such as on the front of certain Land Raider variants, where the blast of shrapnel will clear the area in front of the vehicle so that its cargo of Space Marines can exit the vehicle without fear of enemy combatants attacking them before they even leave the transport. Frag Assault Launchers can also be found on certain types of armoured combat walkers like Ironclad Dreadnoughts, and are used to augment the walker's own devastating charge into close combat.
