Veronica Loomis was the identity assumed by Limis Vircona while she was searching for the Orb of Time on 31st century Bajor. Loomis's grandparents immigrated to the United States from Russia to escape religious persecution, presumably settling in New York City. Her son was killed in the Korean War, and she was committed to a psychiatric hospital because of delusions he was still alive. During her time in the hospital, she became familiar with the unpublished works of fellow resident Benny Russell. She convinced Russell to continue writing the stories despite what his obsessive behavior had already cost him, even stating, "Don't let them tell you you're crazy." Loomis's persuasive words allowed Limis to complete her search for the Orb and return to the 24th century. (Star Trek: Lambda Paz:
