In 2002, Black Box Games was purchased by Electronic Arts and became an associated company by EA Canada. Black Box has focussed heavily on the Need for Speed franchise although they have also created the Skate IP and developed several NHL titles. Since 2012 Criterion Games has replaced EA Black Box as the main developer of the Need for Speed series. On the same year, the studio was renamed to Quicklime Games, whose logo can be seen in a startup screen of Need for Speed: World.
