The movie was a moderate box office success. It was made on a budget of $8,000,000 and earned more then $18,000,000. It was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for horror, violence, gore and bad language. Nine years later, in 2003, a sequel, Freddy vs. Jason, was released.
