Flunkworthy was a young hare of the Long Patrol under Lady Melesme. He was a "class clown" of sorts, as he made constant jokes. He could do an amazing impression of Brigadier Buckworthy Crumshaw; he later used this to cheer up his fellow hares after the Brigadier's unexpected death. He was one of a force of 100 Long Patrol hares sent from Salamandastron by Lady Melesme to track and slay Gulo the Savage and his 100 white vermin; he had never before been on a march, and had difficulty following commands at first. He was good friends with Flummerty and Folderon; Rakkety Tam MacBurl dubbed the trio "the awkward squad" due to their humorous lack of experience.
