Kalo root was the root of a plant used in cooking food. In 2370, Kalo root was an ingredient in a stew cooked by Gideon Seyetik for the senior staff of Deep Space 9. The roots were slightly seared before being layered over slices of roasted Waroon. The recipe took years to perfect, and Chief O'Brien wanted a copy. (DS9: "Second Sight")
